Chiman, Republic of Panama 1986
In the mid-1980s, the remote fishing village of Chiman in the Republic of Panama, was reachable by outsiders by sea and air only. An elderly woman with the only running water, charged visitors to use her shower. Most of us ended up bathing in a nearby river or a running creek. We slept on military cots in an old school house.
